EA Sports continues to release ratings for the Madden NFL 22 season. Green Bay Packers edge rusher Za'Darius Smith wasn't too impressed with his performance in this year's game. Smith is always one of the top edge rushers in the league for the last two seasons, has been given a "Madden" overall score of 89. This puts him 10th among edge rushers.
Smith's displeasure is quite understandable. Smith is not in the top 10 at his position . However, it's not impossible to argue that Smith should receive a higher overall rating. Smith has been a pro Bowler twice during his two seasons with the Packers and is widely regarded as one of the best pass rushers in the league.
Pro Football Focus reports that Smith has registered 144 pressures over the last two seasons. It is fourth most during the regular season. StatMuse reports that Smith has 26 sacks during those two seasons. This is the same as Aaron Donald and ranks third in the NFL for the most since the start of 2019.
Every one of the best edge rushers in the top 10 are worth mentioning. It's tough to identify the best pass rushers of the top 10 in this league. There are so many of them. The reason that Smith is part of this group indicates how efficient he's been. But it's reasonable to also make the argument that his rating should be higher than an 89.
Smith hasn't much to do to prove why he's worthy of a higher rating. Smith has been getting sacks since signing with the Packers two-years ago. Smith can handle the pressures. He's a player who can make big plays in critical moments. Smith is a strong leader and teammate. But if there's one good thing about this is that Smith can utilize it for motivation. And that's never a bad thing.
